I am a printmaker. The art of the original print affords me the possibility to create exciting images using color, shape, form and texture in a multitude of rich and ever-expanding ways.
A print is not a reproduction. It is an original work of art, created entirely by the artist, in limited editions. Simply put, an edition is the total number of identical (or nearly identical) prints that the artist considers suitable for exhibiting and sale.
The creative process of printmaking starts with an original line drawing that is transferred onto a piece of linoleum. The first color is applied, and a piece of paper is placed on top of the inked linoleum. The ink is transferred from the linoleum to the paper by running this “sandwich” through a printing press under great pressure. A series of strategic changes to the linoleum itself, and the application of as many as thirty-two subsequent colors, bring the print to completion. The result is vibrant and visually tactile work of art that is appealing to collectors and art lovers alike.
Why should you buy block prints? Beyond their obvious aesthetic appeal, they are original works of art that reveal the heart and soul of the artist.
Unlike digital reproductions, each print is imbued with the intention and craftsmanship of the artist who has created it. An original print has a richness and vitality unlike any other artistic process.
